Join us for a one-day intensive course meticulously crafted to sharpen your companion rescue skills and prepare you for high-stakes emergencies in the backcountry. Operating in an intimate, small-group setting, this program goes far beyond basic avalanche safety training. Under the expert guidance of certified ACMG guides, you will master professional-level search, extrication, and evacuation protocols to ensure you can confidently handle any backcountry emergency with skill and composure.


Course Content
1. Advanced Transceiver & Missing Skier Search Techniques
Delve into professional-level search strategies to swiftly locate buried companions with precision and efficiency. You will practice hands-on:
- Alternative Search Methods: Mastering micro-search strips, three-circle methods, and complex multiple-burial scenarios.
- Missing Skier Protocols: Executing structured search patterns when a team member goes missing without a clear beacon signal.
2. Tree Well Immersion Extraction
Navigate the hidden complexities of tree well incidents—one of the most common winter hazards.
- Understand the mechanics and dangers of deep snow immersion.
- Practice hands-on, time-critical extrication maneuvers to safely and quickly rescue a trapped partner.
3. Evacuation Logistics & Emergency Response
Prepare to seamlessly coordinate emergency response efforts and medical evacuations in diverse, remote backcountry environments:
- Rescue Toboggans: Learning how to improvise, construct, and maneuver emergency transport sleds.
- Helicopter Landing Zones (HLZ): Understanding site selection, clearing protocols, and professional signaling considerations for air rescue teams.

Physical fitness
Sustained climbing and skiing at elevation demands aerobic capacity and leg strength.
Mountain experience
Prior backcountry skiing or mountaineering experience is strongly recommended before enrollment.
